Summer Sunday School
During the summer when we have the Adult Bible Study on Sunday mornings, we will also offer Sunday school lessons at the same time for students of all ages. There will be a video retelling a Bible account and then activities after the video. The schedule for these summer sessions will be August 12, 19, 26.
Ladies’ Bible Study
Ladies of St. Peter! Are you interested in our new Bible Study? It will begin in early August, our Friday group will meet every other Friday at 10:30 am, beginning August 3, and our Tuesday evening group will meet every other Tuesday at 6:45 pm, beginning August 7. Our new study is called “Meditations with Martin.” These are stand-alone devotions, based on Bible verses and written by Martin Luther. The study sessions last an hour, you may bring your personal Bibles or use the ones provided by St. Peter, there are no tests and no homework--just simple discussions and the sharing and strengthening of our faith and our friendships in Christ. If you've been considering joining a Bible study group, this might be the one for you! If you’ve already been a regular attender, get ready because we’re starting up again!
Taste of Modesto – Tuesday August 14
Ladies, it’s time to sample another restaurant of Modesto. This month we will be dining at Tesoro Mexican Restaurant, located at 1545 Tully Road. All ladies, 21 and over, are invited to join the group. We will meet at Tesoro’s on Tuesday August 14 at 6:30 pm. If you have any questions, see Linka Schroeder.
We are starting another round of our Connect groups at St. Peter. The main purpose of Connect groups is to knit the people of St. Peter together so that they might share their lives as God’s Word directs them to. Sharing of one’s life can certainly happen in a Bible study. But it can happen in other ways as well. Thus, we have three types of Connect groups.
- Study groups—meets to study, discuss, and apply God’s Word
- Service groups—identifies ways to serve the church or specific people or groups
- Social groups—meet to enjoy recreational fellowship
Congregational Five Year Plan Seminar – Sunday, August 26
What happens to the suggestions placed in the suggestion box? In session two of the seminar we will give attention to prioritizing the ideas collected in session one. We will also take those ideas and compare them with the ideas from the suggestion box and count how many people suggested the same or similar idea. A higher count, in essence a vote, for an idea indicates the level of interest for that idea. It will also help when giving ideas a priority level. Please reserve the day for this significant event. It is pivotal to our ministerial planning over the next five years at least. Refer to the August issue of the SLATE for more details and encourage one another to participate in this endeavor. May the Lord bless us as we approach this day.
Impacting young hearts with the Word of God to know more about the love and greatness of our Savior is a joy to which few things can compare. We have the privilege and opportunity to take part in this rewarding work in our Sunday school program at St. Peter. Our fall session of Sunday School will begin on Sunday, September 2. To be part of sharing the Word with Jesus’ lambs, consider being a Sunday school teacher or helper. An initial meeting for teachers and helpers will be held on Sunday, August 19, 11:00-11:30 am (right after the Connect Groups fair that day, so maybe a little earlier). Please talk to Pastor Schroeder or Matt Tablit, Jr. (Discipleship Elder) if you have questions or are interested.
Preschool Dessert Social
Help welcome our preschoolers by serving a treat at the Dessert Social on Wednesday, September 12 at 6:00 pm! This is a great way to get to know the preschool families and welcome them to our St. Peter family. If you are interested there is a sign-up sheet at the back of the church. Please write down your name and the dessert you would like to bring.
