For Our Prayers
Bill Shultz, who has been ill; people in Chile and Haiti, who are recovering from massive earthquakes.
Thank You
Thank you to all who hosted members of the California Lutheran High School handbell choir this past Wednesday evening, as well as to those who prepared and served the meal before the service. We’re grateful for your acts of service and your hospitality. The C-Hawk choir is playing this morning at Star of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Santa Maria and plans to return to the school in Wildomar this afternoon.
Evangelism Committee Meeting
Our evangelism committee will meet on Tuesday evening to finalize plans for our Easter outreach. Members of St. Peter who are interested in assisting with this effort are invited to attend the meeting, which will take place in the classroom off the narthex at 7:00 pm on Tuesday evening.
Daylight Saving Springs Forward
Next Sunday morning at 2:00 am Daylight Saving Time will take effect. Most computers, cell phones and other sophisticated electronic devices will update automatically but most clocks will not, so be sure and set your clocks ahead one hour next Saturday night before going to bed.
Sunday Morning Nursery Care
We are presently in great need of volunteers to help with the nursery care during the 10:30 am service on Sunday mornings. It is good if we have four or more that can rotate through the schedule. Soon we will be down to only one volunteer. If you can help in this way please talk with Dan Kreger, Debbie Schulz or Pastor Janke or call the church office at 551-0563.
Men’s Retreat
Apostles Lutheran Church, San Jose, is sponsoring the 11th annual Northern Califonia and Nevada WELS Brothers in Christ men’s retreat the weekend of March 5-7. It will be held at the Koinonia Conference Grounds, Watsonville, CA. Brochures are available in the narthex for those interested in attending this retreat. The registration deadline is Tuesday, February 23.
Work Day at Church
Another way for St. Peter members to assist in our Easter outreach is to lend a hand with our annual spring work day. This is a way to make sure that our buildings and grounds will be in excellent shape when our guests join us. This year’s work day will take place on Saturday, March 20, starting at 8:00 am. Lunch will be provided. A list of work day projects is posted in the narthex at church. If March 20 doesn’t work for you, you may also select one of the work day projects and take care of it at a time that’s more convenient for you.
Easter Outreach Plans
Our evangelism committee has made plans to deliver 3000 invitations to our neighbors to attend our Easter services. The invitations will be delivered on Saturday morning, March 27. Visitors will receive a free copy of the new video “The Road to Emmaus.” We were able to obtain 100 copies of the video for just $1.50 per copy through an anonymous gift to the WELS. Our Easter morning schedule will not only include a delicious Easter breakfast cooked up by Chef Mike Hazelwood and his crew, but this year there will also be an Easter egg hunt following the 10:30 service.
Here are some ways that St. Peter members can assist in our Easter outreach:
- Help deliver invitations on Saturday morning, March 27
- Invite your friends, neighbors and relatives to join us for Easter services
- Assist on Easter morning with the breakfast preparations and serving (men)
- Serve as a greeter before and after either the 8:00 or 10:30 service
- Help with the Easter egg hunt (prior to Easter or on Easter (Sunday)
- Help set up for Easter breakfast (Saturday, April 3) or assist with clean-up
The resurrection of our Savior Jesus is great news for the whole world. Let’s work together to help as many people as possible know the peace and joy of Jesus’ Easter victory.
NIV Revision Planned
The New International Version of the Bible, which we use here at St. Peter, is about to undergo a revision, according to a statement issued jointly by NIV publisher Zondervan, by the Committee on Bible Translation, and by Biblica (formerly the International Bible Society), which holds the NIV copyright. The revision will be based on the TNIV (Today’s New International Version), which was published in 2002, and included more than 3,000 changes of the NIV. The TNIV was criticized in part for its attempt to be a “gender accurate” translation, which, some claimed, had resulted in a “gender inaccurate” translation. The revised NIV will go by the name “NIV” and is due to be published next year, which is the 400th anniversary of the publication of the King James Version.
| Midweek Lenten Series |
|
Our midweek Lenten series this year has the theme “We Preach Christ Crucified.” The sermon each week is based on a passage from one of the New Testament epistles. Beginning with the second midweek service, the Prayer at Close of Day liturgy will also include a reading from the Passion History according to the Gospel of Luke. We invite you to join us for the next six Wednesday evenings as we gather at our Savior’s cross.
